Αυτά τα έργα του Τρότσκι καλύπτουν μια περίοδο από το 1930 έως το 1936, όπου διαδραματίστηκαν γεγονότα που καθόρισαν τις παγκόσμιες εξελίξεις, την πορεία του ευρωπαϊκού και παγκόσμιου εργατικού κινήματος και άνοιξαν τον δρόμο για το μεγαλύτερο σφαγείο που γνώρισε μέχρι σήμερα η ανθρωπότητα, τον Β' Παγκόσμιο Πόλεμο. Ο Τρότσκι δίνει σ' αυτή την περίοδο εξαιρετική σημασία, την αναλύει με μεγάλη προσοχή και απαράμιλλη επιδεξιότητα και ταυτόχρονα προσπαθεί να \"διορθώσει\" την εγκληματική πολιτική του γερμανικού και γαλλικού κομμουνιστικού κόμματος και της σοσιαλδημοκρατίας, ιδιαίτερα της γερμανικής. Η ανάλυσή του για τον φασισμό και για τους κινδύνους που εγκυμονούσε για την ανθρωπότητα -δυστυχώς υποτιμήθηκε στην εποχή του ή θεωρήθηκε υπερβολική- παραμένει, ακόμα και σήμερα, όχι μόνο αξεπέραστη αλλά και υπόδειγμα αναλυτικής μαρξιστικής μεθόδου. Είναι τόσο μεγάλη η διεισδυτικότητα του Τρότσκι στα γεγονότα, ώστε πολλές από τις εκτιμήσεις του έχουν σχεδόν έναν προφητικό χαρακτήρα, για τον ρόλο του Χίτλερ, για τον ρόλο του ΚΚ Γερμανίας και της σοσιαλδημοκρατίας, για τον ρόλο του Λαϊκού Μετώπου στη Γαλλία, για τον ρόλο της σταλινικής Κομμουνιστικής Διεθνούς.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eΕπίσης, σ' αυτά τα έργα του Τρότσκι συνεχίζοντας την προβληματική που αναπτύχθηκε στο 3ο και 4ο Συνέδριο της Κομμουνιστικής Διεθνούς, υπάρχει η πιο εκτεταμένη και επεξεργασμένη παράθεση των απόψεών του για την τακτική του Ενιαίου Εργατικού Μετώπου. Η ανάλυση της τακτική του Ενιαίου Εργατικού Μετώπου, όπως και του Λαϊκού Μετώπου το οποίο εφάρμοσαν με διαφορες παραλλαγές τα ρεφορμιστικά κόμματα, είναι πολύτιμες συνεισφορές για το εργατικό κίνημα, ιδιαίτερα σήμερα.
